one more day

Put on your Wolfpack t-shirt, find your face tattoos, and dust off your pom-poms. We've only got 30 hours, 3 minutes, and 22 seconds until kickoff...

reminder

Just a little reminder: This Sunday is the last Sunday before Labor Day, otherwise known as the last hurrah for white shoes. Only Smurfs get to wear white shoes year-round, so if you wear your white shoes after this coming Monday, your skin had better be blue...or you will be discussed. If you're going to live in the South, you have to follow the Southern rules. Get ready to pack those white shoes away...you won't need them again until Easter.

pageant perils

Rachael came over to eat tacos and watch the big TV. We ended up flipping around and landed on the Miss Teen USA pageant in time to see this:

Forget finding America...I don't think she could find her rear end with two hands and a map...

furniture

The furniture has arrived!!! My undying gratitude goes to John and Jimmy, who graciously moved it for me. Frank and Oozey are really enjoying the couch...so far they've sat on it more than I have. The reason I haven't been sitting on that couch much? I've been sitting on the couch in the theatre room (that almost didn't make it in there) watching the big TV:

Brian came over and hooked it all up, then we watched some preseason NFL (in HD!!!) and The Office. I have to go get an HD antenna today. Hannah made the boys milkshakes with Martha's leftover birthday ice cream. I'm still waiting for my milkshake...

Why God is Awesome...

...reason #142,594:

I was delivering some samples to one of our builders today during lunch. I got rear-ended. I'm OK. The guy who hit me is OK. Here's the "God is Awesome" part:

The damage to my car:

The damage to his car:

His car slid right under my bumper. Praise God for His protection and mercy!!!

rumbling

I woke up to an awesome thunderstorm this morning. As I lay in bed, enjoying the rumbling and the sound of rain on the tin roof, this was playing through my mind:

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars,
I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

weepy nerd

I got to see Becoming Jane Sunday night. Mr. Tumnus was adorable. I may have cried a little at the end. Hannah called me a nerd. I give it a 7 out of 10. I would tell you why...but I don't want to ruin it for everyone else. It made me want to watch the 6-hour Colin Firth Pride & Prejudice...which I may do when the big TV comes.

Speaking of said big TV, I still don't have any living room furniture. I've been told I can come get it Thursday. We'll see...

settling in

We're slowly settling into the new house. They finished pouring the driveway yesterday. It'll be nice to be able to drive all the way to the house again. John came over and hung some more blinds...this time in the living room. Now we don't have to be creeped out at night. I bought a picture for my room. Hannah put her sissy-boy blue accessories in the downstairs bathroom. I would protest...but it's keeping me from shelling out money for new stuff...so I guess it can stay. For now. I might get crazy and cook in my new kitchen tonight...but I'll be limited in what I can make. It turns out that my nice cookware can't be used on a glass cooktop. Good thing Hannah has a whole set at her folks' house that will work. All in all, it's starting to feel more like home. Someone is so comfortable she's forgotten the rule about kitties on the counter:

clear coat

I needed help hanging my blinds. John offered to hang them for me...if I would help him polyurethane the wood lockers at the horse barn.
"Sure" I said.
"That doesn't sound too bad" I said.
I was wrong.

It took four of us nearly three hours to paint them all...and when we finished, John directed us to a wall that needed a coat too. Rachael scaled the ladder as Hannah and I crawled under it to finish. I came home with my hands smelling like gas and polyurethane in my hair. Today my hand is crampy and swollen.

On the other hand...I think we were the first ones to get washed in the wash-pit.

OH - Rach...it's the 15th. Don't forget the withholding tax! (I almost forgot)

the big move

We moved. We now officially live a the new house...which reminds me, I need to change my mailing address. Praise God for a cooler, overcast day! A BIG thanks to (in order of appearance) Dave, Justin, Brian, Leanna, Tommy, Johnny, Mike, Martha, and Rachael. Except for Hannah's room, which is already completely decorated, we still have a long way to go. We hung my curtains last night. I just need to go get some tiebacks:

Wow...my walls look really yellow in that picture. I promise they're not that yellow in real life. Here's Hannah's infamous purple room. I told you it was completely decorated:

After much heavy lifting, doubt, trial and error, and good old-fashioned shoving it through the door, the couch made it into the theater room. Mike, Johnny, Dave, Justin, and Tommy said that if I ever need to get the couch out of here, we'll have to use a chain saw. I applaud their efforts. The furniture won't be arranged like this...I just didn't have the energy to move it.

With all the moving done, there was nothing left to do but sit back and watch the Chargers game...only there's no furniture to sit on...yet. I'm hoping to get my new couch, chair, and ginormous TV later in the week. Good thing there's a comfy rug to lay on...

Oozey and Frank are adjusting to their new home. Frank is all over the place. Oozey's been a little more reserved. She spent her first four hours cowering under the gas logs. She's out and about now...but still likes to find hiding places to snuggle in.

Even though I don't have a picture...we welcomed our first official guests Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Pam, Mr. David, Lydia, Kimberly, and Lauren swung by for a quick visit. We've been promising that the girls could come for a slumber party when we got moved in. It's about time to make good on that promise!

We'll be spending the week hanging pictures, putting up more blinds, and cooking in the new kitchen (which we LOVE!!!). Y'all come on over if you get bored...

rambling

The migration continues. John hung my blinds, and I learned how to shorten them. I bought a new bathmat yesterday. The rubber duckies will be retired effective Saturday. Last night we took over a load of winter clothes. After bringing in 3 armloads, I was completely exhausted. I can't wait until this funk goes away. My nose is starting to scab over, and I'm going back and forth between being chilly and sweating profusely.

In other news...HAPPY BIRTHDAY RACHAEL! I don't feel so old any more...

beach fun

What a fun time at Oak Island! I'm the closest I've ever been to being bronze (with only a few pink spots). It seems like nearly everyone was able to come. Frank even tried to sneak into the tub-o-sheets and towels:

As we walked on the beach Sunday night, Rachael noticed something orange in the distance. Turns out it was the moon. So we stood there for a while watching the moon rise. What an awesome sight!

Martha put this sign up on Wednesday. Someday Noah will know exactly what his mother thinks of him:

We took turns with cooking and cleanup...and ate like kings all week. Note to self - more than 2 people in that kitchen were too many. But how many supervisors does one cook need?

The fruits of Hannah's (and John's) labors. Mmmm...pinwheels:

It was a great ti
me...but it was certainly nice to be back in my bed last night. Especially since it appears that the only souvenir I brought home is a head cold...

I leave you with a vote for the quote of the week:

A-"Turn that TV down!"
B-"I have a low threshold for stupidity."
C-"Purple smoke, Carroll. PURPLE SMOKE!!!"
D-"Jaco's a purty boy."
E-"That guy just stole our beach chair!"
