beach time

Oak Island here we come! I've made a thorough packing list, Hannah made up the menu and grocery list, the spreadsheet is updated, and the directions have been printed and sent out. I just have to do 4 loads of laundry and pack, wash the car and check the oil and tire pressure, see the Simpsons movie tonight, and I'll be ready to go. I'm getting a sunburn just thinking about it!

In other news, Scout and Aari finally came home. It's quite picturesque to look across the road and see horses in the pasture. I've never seen John Burt so excited. He finally has his horse...even if he was outbid on a saddle on ebay. Rachael's not going to know what to do with all the extra time she has now that two hungry mouths are out of the pasture. I know...she can rebuild the stall that Scout destroyed.

christmas in july

I had a whole carload of Christmas decorations. That's WITH the back seat laid down. Where does all this stuff come from? OK OK...a good chunk of it was Snow Village...but STILL! I had to make seven trips up the stairs to get it all in. I decided to put it in the closet off the theater room. I hesitate to put it in a non-climate-controlled environment until I know for sure what's in every box. I can't remember right now. So that's one more area that's moved. I wish they'd get the closet rods hung so we can start moving clothes.

Is it time to go to the beach yet???

late night snack

Last night John came over to watch Hell's Kitchen with us. It went off at 10:00...and somehow, the conversation turned to pancakes. The next thing I knew, Hannah and John both wanted pancakes. I felt bad for Hannah since she'd been babysitting all night and missed supper, and I kinda owe John since he's been helping me truck loads of stuff across the road. So I made them some. At 10:00 at night.

Now it smells like pancakes and syrup in the house. I hate the smell of pancakes and syrup...

everybody moooooove

The migration has begun. We moved all the books and DVDs, and I've taken a load of kitchen stuff over that I know I won't be using in the next few weeks. We started off by arranging the mantel. We were careful to only put the most important stuff up there:

We found a beautiful rug on Saturday...so now we have a spot to stick boxes when we bring them in. I don't want to chance scratching the floors. We did get all the books put up last night. I thought for sure the shelves would be packed (since Hannah's quite a collector), but our books don't fill up the shelves! I guess that's a good thing. More room for pictures (and maybe SNOW VILLAGE!!!).

Hannah hung half of her curtains. We bought blinds for the bedrooms...but ADD-ed out on installing them. I called my builder...he's having someone do it this week.

OH - quick programming note: They have moved our phone and internet to the new house...so if you need me, Hannah, Oozey, or Frank this week...call our cell phones. Well...call my cell or Hannah's. The baby kitties don't have cell phones.

And as always...bonus points if you know where the title of the post comes from...

endless summer

It's hot. I feel like I sweat all day long. This is the point in the year that it feels like it will be hot forever and fall will never come. Goodness...I'm ready for fall...cool breezes, bright leaves, the State Fair, and, most importantly...football. Is it strange that I just got the urge to put up my snow village?

Gotta go...I think my water bottle is semi-frozen...

BBC in the FV

So we start Backyard Bible Club tonight. Taking VBS to the neighborhoods is a bit more challenging, but certainly rewarding. I know we're going to have an awesome time, meet some great kids, and most importantly, tell them about Jesus. I also know it's going to be hot. I'm sweating just thinking about it. Everybody hydrate!!!

And who knows...Rachael may even make this face again:

stuff everywhere

Frank is cute. I don't really have anything else interesting to report. We've started packing. I have entirely too much crap. I'm going to start mercilessly throwing things away. A lot of the knicknacks are going. The happy meal toys are going. The college textbooks are going (well...I may save 2 or 3...but THAT'S IT). The stuffed animals...are going in rubbermaid containers in the attic. I just can't get rid of those. All the stuff there in the house that's either John's or Grandmother & Granddaddy leftovers is staying. It'll be nice to have a house with just my stuff in it again.

Can you buy rubbermaid containers in bulk???

mini-vacation

I drove down to Holden Beach for a mini-vacation over the weekend. When I say "mini," I mean I was there for 27 hours. My mama's family has spent a week together at the beach every year since the 1950's. I just feel compelled to go...I guess it's in the genes.

It may be silly, but I get chills every time I come over the bridge and see the USS North Carolina in Wilmington (don't you just love my "in motion" photography...).

Marie brought BBQ for dinner. We needed some slaw, so we ran down to the ghetto grocery store on the island. We picked up a tub labeled slaw...and this is what we got: a very soupy tub of a chopped cabbage-like substance that looked a whole lot like watergate salad. I'm pretty sure they added green food coloring.

I also got to meet Chase, my new baby cousin. He's 6 weeks old, and just adorable!

I was sad to leave last night...but now I'm REALLY ready for our beach week that's coming up soon. That reminds me...I need to know for sure what everyone's schedules are for that week so I can let you know the breakdown for the house. The spreadsheet awaits...

1776

I watched 1776 last night. I'm just compelled to do it (kinda like how I have to watch White Christmas 300 times between Thanksgiving and New Years'). Hannah called me a dork. Then I was kept awake late into the night by some neighbor shooting fireworks past midnight. Ahhh...the glorious Fourth...

murphy's law

I just called the clawfoot tub people to confirm that they were bringing the tub tonight. I'm on the schedule. Perfect.

"Wait...let me just check something with you," says the lady. "You wanted the feet painted white, right?"
"Um...no...we said black."
"Aggghhhh! My husband's going to kill me for not writing that down!"

My bathtub is now being delivered (with BLACK feet) on Thursday.

This is the house of Murphy's Law...
