shiny shoes
So I took John's shiny army shoe with a real bad scuff on it to be repaired today. The guy was able to get most of the mark out. When I asked him how much it cost to buff the shoe, he just smiled and said, "His service is enough for me."
Everybody go patronize Lee's Shoes. They're good folks.
a day late
"On Memorial Day, America undertakes its solemn duty to remember the sacred list of brave Americans who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom and the security of our Nation...
...We pray for peace throughout the world, remembering what was gained and what was lost during times of war. From the bravery of the men at Valley Forge, to the daring of Normandy, the courage of Iwo Jima, and the steady resolve in Afghanistan and Iraq, our men and women in uniform have won for us every hour that we live in freedom...
...As we honor those who have served and have been lost, we better understand the meaning of patriotism and citizenship, and we pledge that their sacrifices will not be in vain...
...The noble sacrifices of our service men and women will not be forgotten. Every name, every life is a loss to our military, to our Nation, and to their loved ones. Americans stand with the families who grieve, and we share in their great sorrow and great pride. There will be no homecoming on this Earth for those lost in battle, but we know that this reunion will one day come..."

nerds
That's right. We watched it last night. And it was GREAT! I'd forgotten how much I used to love Saved by the Bell. I just don't know if Hannah or John was more excited about seeing it again.
I know...we're nerds.
afterglow
'Related' is over and 'Smallville' is done
'Alias' ended and Taylor has won
Michael and Link left Fox River behind
While parental issues left 'Bones' in a bind.
A moment of truth at Seattle Grace
For Meredith, McDreamy, and cute what's his face.
'Earl' and 'The Office' both ended for now
I know I shall go on living - but how?
I love the TV, it's my favorite thing
Except when the re-runs begin every spring.
Excitement and drama throughout all of May
Then suddenly *POOF!* and they're all gone away.
I suppose I'll just wait until Fall comes again
With season premieres, and new shows and friends.
I'll finish this poem of pining and woeAnd in front of my set, stare at afterglow.CAB 2006
new baby
Congratulations to Shelley, Jason, and Ella on the arrival of the newest family member! Jaelyn Elizabeth was born last Friday afternoon... and everyone is doing well. As you can see, Ella loves her baby sister!
And Shell...no one should look that good after having two babies!
whirlwind
What a great weekend! We made new friends and had a wonderful time! Lots of girl talk, Oreos, seafood, shopping, and sitting around doing nothing. I saw white lightning strike 3 times. I've almost decided to let Hannah highlight my hair. Thanks to Lydia for organizing the weekend! This was the view from the back deck of the beach house. I didn't get as much sun as I would have liked, but the sand was blowing so hard that it hurt to lay on the beach. So we found other fun things to do instead....
We went to the NC Aquarium...where Hannah was a great friend and stood between me and the snakes and eels.
Then we found Nemo...
And I learned that although these fish are cool...they're poisonous!!!
The Twentieth of May
Happy "Eliza Doolittle Day!"
Since I won't be here tomorrow...I thought I'd go ahead and put this up...
***if you don't get that reference, you have a musical to watch***
road trip
Seeing this sign made me glad that I don't live in Barstow, CA. OK...just a few more hours and I'm outta here. I think I've packed everything...PJs, contact solution, sunblock, Excedrin Migraine. Y'all go see baby Oozey if you get a chance. Her uncle John is watching her this weekend.
Ciao!
note to self
Ah, Tuscany. Work is stressful. Makes me want to hop a plane and head back there. As tough as times may get, and as I am reminded that I have NO control over the situation, these words keep playing in my mind:"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. "
God always shows up. I guess I just have to be patient while I'm waiting for Him...

Happy Mothers' Day!
(it's not everybody that has such a great Mama!)
Happy Birthday!
(it's not everyday that you turn 10!)
on stage
I had an audience while I put on my makeup this morning. She finally figured out that she can jump from the side of the tub, to the top of the toilet, onto the countertop, and into the sink. Not quite sure how I feel about a cat in the sink where I brush my teeth and put in my contacts, but she sure was cute...

overachiever
Pronunciation: o'ver·a·chiev'er
Function:
noun
: one who achieves success over and above the standard or expected level especially at an early age
On a completely unrelated topic, there was a dead frog in the office this morning. I walked a wide circle around it until one of the guys came in and threw it out for me. I know...I'm such a girl...
hero
Max saved my life on Saturday. Well...not so much saved my life as he woke me up after I passed out from giving blood. It just sounds nobler if I say that he saved my life. I'm getting him a superhero cape for his birthday...and one of those little tiny kegs that the alpine rescue dogs wear around their necks. I think I'll keep some chocolate milk in there, just in case...
May 5th
Feliz Cinco de Mayo! In honor of the holiday, I will be making homemade salsa and fighting the urge to get Taco Bell for lunch.
OH - and don't forget that the Blood Mobile is tomorrow morning. Y'all call me if you want to be a hero and save someone's life...
Felicidades!
critters
My 3 favorite critters. Aren't they cute?!? Poor Max has big brother syndrome. Doesn't understand why he can't come in the house anymore. And look at little Oozey! I promise she's not strung out on catnip. She was trying so hard to stay awake and finish Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves...but like Hannah and I, she just couldn't do it. I just threw in Willy the Safety Squirrel to freak Rachael out...
i love my job
primaries
Polls are open until 7:00. That gives you four hours from right now. Plenty of time to do your civic duty and be back for American Idol.
