Post It
Boy...you know it's bad when MARTHA is yelling at you to update your blog. I'm up near Richmond, the capital of the Confederacy. We've been having a great time; staying up late, eating WAY too much, playing PS2, copying dvds, and sleeping late. I'm embarrassed to say that I got up at 11:50 this morning. There is really no excuse for sleeping that late.
Looking forward to ringing in the New Year Saturday night...
Merry Christmas to all...
...and to all a good night!
Hope you all find exactly what you wanted under the tree!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Eulogy
Grandaddy bought it for Grandmother the Christmas of 1979. She'd been wanting a microwave for a while, and he finally broke down and got her one. You had to mash the Change/Cancel button twice, then enter the cook time. If you wanted to watch something cook, you had to manually turn on the light. It pulled so much power, that you couldn't run it and the toaster oven at the same time. It takes up half of the counter, and fills most of the space between the countertop and the wall cabinet. It's heated thousands of mugs of hot chocolate, and cooked many strips of bacon on paper towels and newspaper.
It died on a Thursday. The digital part is shot. After all these years, it just gave up. I don't even want another microwave. I've tried to look at new ones, but they don't have any character. Every time I look at it, I think about Grandmother. And then I can't bear to get rid of it.
Farewell, dear microwave. I may get a new one, but it could never replace you.
One More Time
I am now on Wolf #3. I wish y'all would quit stealing them. I know you want to be like me and have a super cool Struttin' Wolf on the back of your car (or truck...), but these things aren't cheap and I'm getting tired of having to fork over the cash for a new one.
So stop hanging out in the Walmart parking lot waiting for me to go inside. I don't plan to back there until well after Christmas...
Meltdown...
You know that feeling when you have TEN THOUSAND things to do and only two days to do them? I HATE IT!!! I think I felt that way the whole time I was in college. I guess I'd better make a list. I need to shop, bake, paint, clean, wrap, and get all of those cabinet doors out of the backseat of my car. All this stuff is definitely gonna cut into my "sit around and watch TV" time...
At Last!

Infamy
"Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan...
...As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense...Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us...
...No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory...
...With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God."
- President Franklin D. Roosevelt
8 Ball, Corner Pocket
Well the impossible has happened. I beat John Burt, the resident pool shark. Twice in a row, and not by default! It's nice to know that the 2 months of practicing is starting to pay off. We played 6 games, and I ended up winning 3. (to be fair, the other win was because the 8 ball rolled into the pocket on my crooked table, so I can't really claim that one)
And speaking of games that you have to get baptized again after playing, it's about time for a poker night, don't you think?
New Traditions
Last night we all built gingerbread houses. Somehow, amid wierd Mexican spices, tiny plastic horses, outside design help, crumbling chimneys, and Rachael eating all the candy; we managed to make some great houses (and barns and weaning/foaling pens). I think we're already inspired and planning for next year. I think I might build Carter-Finley Stadium. Can you guess who built what?
