ponder

I love my job. We just had a meeting about things that we didn't know. Not a one of us knew this particular accounting detail. Not even my boss. It just hadn't ever come up. In the end, we discovered that it doesn't even matter to what we're doing.

The point of the meeting? "If you don't know that you don't know something, for heaven's sake, don't TELL someone that you don't know it."

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I need to go ponder the profundity of that logic...

shut it

So Hannah was right. It turns out that shutters were just the thing that the house needed.

Now if I can just get my swing hung. And perhaps add some flower boxes at the windows. And do a little more landscaping. And buy some dining room furniture. And finish up the back porch. And...

a real post

OK OK...here's a real post...not one scribbled in haste because I feel guilty for going a week without updating the blog.

Two weeks ago Shirley's sisters and their daughters all met up in Durham for our semi-annual girls' weekend. We noticed that the ceiling of the elevator was a mirror...so we had to take a picture:

We spent most of Saturday shopping...and I found a new bedspread for the guest room! Later that night, Amy and I taught everyone else to play Cranium. We made it through the game with the family intact. It turns out they can do charades without mouthing the words. Ahem.

Speaking of the new bedspread, the downstairs guest room is nearly complete! I still need a nightstand and a bit more art...but here's the general idea. Drumroll please:

I have some lamps that match already...so that's a plus. I also decided to hang Louise's bridal portrait in here. It's supposed to go in the dining room...but, since I have no furniture in there any way, the portrait can live in here for a while. A room just needs some art.

I can't remember if I posted the downstairs bathroom update...and I think several of you have seen it by now any way...

While I'm updating you on the house stuff, here's the next project. John and Rachael aren't going to have room for Fred's old furniture (which is John's now), so they're letting it live at my house for a while. You can see one of the beds and the nightstand in the mirror. The other bed is in my garage. The roof leaked on it while it was in the attic, so I'm sanding it down and refinishing it. I'll let you know when it gets done.

So that's what I've been doing lately. Work is blowing up (can just I say that I hate the USDA Specialty Crops program?), so I'll post again when I have some time.
