BCGs

There's a reason that these snazzy specs are referred to as "Birth Control Goggles." Someone's proud of his standard military issue, cheaper than dirt frames. At least now, if John can't get his contact in, he won't have to go around with one blurry eye all day. I kinda think that if I were to marry Steve Urkel, this is what our kid might look like...

a pain in the neck

My neck is stiff. It was a little sore yesterday, and when I woke up this morning, I couldn't move it at all. I took some drugs and spent some time cuddled up with the rice bag, and the heat helped loosen it up a teeny bit...but it still hurts (and we all know how WELL I handle pain...). Have you ever thought about how hard it is to drive when you can't turn your head? I hadn't either, until this morning.

I think I'm going to teach Oozey to give me a massage. It's about time she started earning her keep...she's been on a welfare scholarship since she got here...

dispatch from Ft. Benning

Well well...Look who Lt. John went to church with yesterday. Jimmy Carter actually taught his Sunday School class. I am only allowed to post this picture if I make it VERY clear to you all that John IS NOT a fan of Jimmy Carter, there aren't too many things Carter has done that John agrees with, and he was just a former president teaching Sunday School. They also went to the Carter Museum...where John said that the video tried to give Carter credit for freeing the Iranian hostages...but we all know it was Ronaldus Magnus that did that...as well as ending the Cold War, bringing down the Berlin Wall & Iron Curtain, drastically cutting taxes, and sparking the longest sustained growth of the American economy in recorded history.

Wow. We need to be praying that God will raise up another Ronald Reagan. And soon!

double feature

Yesterday was a first. We saw TWO movies in the theater in one day. The first was a Carroll movie - a sappy yet predictable romantic comedy. The second was a Hannah movie - lots of action, some scary moments, and a body count. Music and Lyrics was pretty good...but to tell you the truth, I actually liked Ghost Rider better. I do enjoy a superhero...even one with a tortured soul that rides the earth fighting evil.

c'est l'amour

I'm wearing my new pearls today. I know I said that I was saving them for dressy occasions...but it's Valentine's Day...and that's pretty special. Anyway, I guess it's special - my Valentine is a calico kitty that smells like litter.

I think I'm gonna head home after work and watch Sleepless in Seattle...or maybe Return to Me. So I leave you my favorite movie line of all time:

Grace has Bob's dead wife's heart!!!

single (and aware of it)

We celebrated Singles' Awareness Night tonight (and I'm using the word "celebrate" loosely here). Just a few friends having dinner, listening to horse show music (I still can't believe Rachael actually paid money for that CD), watching American Idol & the Primetime Polygamy special (I've waited all weekend to laugh at the polygamists), and laughing about previous bad Valentines dates. Now THAT'S something you can only do with your REAL friends!

kitty birthday

Happy birthday to Claude and Oozey! It seems like just yesterday that these little balls of fluff were scampering all over the house. Oozey will be getting some wet food cake and a new bird for her birthday (don't tell her...it's a surprise!).

momentous

Check it out...I put all my clothes away. This is the first time in a while that there hasn't been several mounds of clean laundry on my floor. I can't wait til I have enough closet space in the new house!

big weekend

I had a pretty big weekend. Hannah and I spent Saturday with our mamas at Crabtree...and we managed make it out without spending too much money (I didn't buy a thing!) I got home in time to catch the last 35 seconds of the State/UNC game. I'm still in a state of shock! I do enjoy seeing those arrogant Tar Heels beaten down. I was pulling for the Bears in the Super Bowl, but I'm OK with the Colts winning. Peyton needed a ring. I did watch most of the game...but I ADD-ed out for a while in the 2nd quarter. And for what it's worth, I will NOT be seeing the movie with the scary ghost legs under the sheet...or the movie with the girl coming down the hall with the flickering fluorescent lights.

Lt. John also left Saturday for his 7 week training...leaving the afghan to you-know-who. Don't tell him...but I'm kinda starting to miss him...

the afghan

As I watch the snow fall, I can't wait to get back home and snuggle on the couch. Yet I won't be able to sit on my couch in peace. Allow me to present the cause of 90% of the problems at our house: The Afghan.

It was Grandmother's. I don't know if she made it, or someone else did. All I know is that it's from the 70s (obviously). It sat, folded in the living room, for 10 years or so. John came over a few months ago and got it out, claiming that since I keep the house on the chilly side, he needed a blanket. As soon as he brought it out, Hannah decided that her furry blanket wasn't good enough. SHE wanted the afghan. And the battle ensued.

Now there is a knock-down, drag-out fight nearly every night, complete with the occasional wet-willy. Whoever gets the afghan first has to make a snide remark to the other one, causing that person to get up and try to forcibly take the afghan. It's a battle for the ages, and it always blocks my view of the TV.

So, as the snow is piling up on the road, I'll head home, put on a pot of soup, hide the afghan, and snuggle up with my duck blanket. I just hope the two of them don't try to gang up on me and take it, because if they touch my duck blanket, I'll kill them.

**UPDATE: For those interested (ahem - Heather and Lydia) here's my duck blanket...with Oozey snuggled inside!
